Absolute Barbecues, T. Nagar
1st Visit: I was invited for the soft-launch of Absolute Barbecues in T. Nagar, Chennai, for dinner, the first time. The dinner was on the house by the team and they were keen to collect our feedback and make necessary improvements.
Visits 2 – 6: Impressed every time and the review hasn’t changed much from the first visit.
Now, let me proceed to the review part of it.
Location: Bit tucked in. It is located near Pothys and Manyavar. If you’re coming from T. Nagar, then go past the signal near Manyavar, park under the bridge and you can see this place on the opposite side. It’s located on the 3rd floor.
Ambiance: Because of the number of people, it was noisy of course, grills smoking on all the tables. But I personally didn’t feel it disturbing at the least. Sure, this is not the place to go for a romantic candle light dinner, but this is definitely a cool place to hang out.
Service: One word: Awesome. Extremely polite, very friendly, insisted on our feedback whatever they might be and very attentive. I hope they maintain the same throughout without getting complacent after a while.
Ok, I can feel that you’re asking me to get on with the food part of it.
Food: For the TL;DR folks: It’s awesome. For Vegetarians and Non Vegetarians alike. They’ve focused equally on both the categories and are aiming to please both. Do give it a try and you won’t regret it. BTW, it’s all unlimited 😛
For the lovers, I tried the vegetarian part of it, the occasional/rare non-vegetarian remarks are from my friend, who tried their non-veg.
Starters: 6 starters each for Veg and Non Veg. For the starters, the grill is placed on the table.
The veg options which I tried:
Grilled Pineapple – Lovely. It’s a must try.
Coconut Kebab – It was nice, but not something to rave about.
Paneer Tikka – Excellent. Soft, well marinated and grilled paneer.
Mushroom Tikka – Slurrrrppppp !
American Cheesy Potato – Yummilicious !
Crispy Corn – Liked them, but not something to rave about.
Apart from these, there was one more veg grill with corn, capsicum etc.
Non Veg Grill was made up of: Fish, Chicken, Mutton(as far as I could identify). My friend told that these non-veg starters were well-grilled and among the best he has tasted so far. I’d take his word for it.
Wish Grill:
(The items from wish grill are on the album)
The basic concept here is, you choose the items you want, add the sauces, pick between rice or noodles and convey it to the chef there. They’ll mix these up, grill them and give you a delicious, heavenly dish to satisfy your hunger.
I chose Rice + Veg Dumplings + Bamboo Shoots + Olives + Jalapenos + Huwaiin Coconut Sauce. The dish I got was something I’d like to rave on and on. I loved it personally !
Desserts ! Well, I won’t tell you more about them. They got a huge assortment of desserts, try them out and then you’ll have your answer.
Other usual Indian main course fare: Yes, these were also there, but we never got to trying them out, as our tummies were about to burst already 😛
Apart from this, we also tried few mocktails. Hazel, Mango Rush and a Watermelon based mocktail was what we tried. I loved the Hazel. Tasted the Mango Rush and found it heavenly. My friend told the Watermelon based one was just average.
