Coal Barbecues, Velachery
Food Blogger’s Meet at Coal Barbecues
It was a fine Friday evening when a bunch of food bloggers (Yes, someone told us we’ve to stick to that fancy term) decided to meet at a blogger’s meet (Now you know why we stuck to that term :P) organized by Coal Barbecues, the fancy new BBQ restaurant in Velachery. The food was on-the-house, however the review is my personal opinion based on our experience. (PS: This is kinda late review, as our visit happened almost 2 months back – Blame it on my hyper-busy RL 🙁 )
Quite a few BBQ restaurants have been cropping up in the city of late and Coal Barbecues is another addition to that ever-growing list.
Located in the so-called “Manhattan of Chennai” (Dei, Anna Nagar with our tower is the heart of Chennai da :P), it’s bound to attract a lot of folks and is easy to spot as well. It has got ‘ample’ parking space for about 4 cars, so you can most definitely pack your bags and land here without packing your cars.
The Actual Food Review:
We started off with an OKish welcome drink, a decent soup and phenomenal starters ! The array of starters were the usual collection of what’s being served in other BBQ joints and the tastes great just like how they do everywhere else. Cajun Spiced Potatoes were rocking and my friend Rajiv and I literally hogged on them !
Now coming to the main course, for some reason, the BBQ joints appear to have decided that the taste quotient of the their main course can be left lacking, compared to the expectation set-up by the starters. Sadly, Coal Barbecues is no better and appears to have stuck to that same formula. None of the items we had in main course was memorable.
They have introduced some Italian fusion naans apparently, but my bad luck, I never got them even after repeating my request for it about 5 times (tough luck when I decided to have a chat with a fellow foodie when this being served, and I missed my turn)
Desserts – Again, they were the usual fare, not too great, not too bad. Nothing memorable for me personally.
Ambiance:
The usual BBQ restaurant ambiance, don’t go expecting a peaceful ambiance. But it’s not intrusive and you would tend to get lost in the love of food.
Service:
Service was generally good, except for the part where they completely forgot and ignored my repeated requests for the naans :/
Rating:
Taste: 3/5
Quantity: 5/5 (Unlimited)
Service: 3.5/5
Ambiance: 3.5/5
Cost: NA – It was on the house for us
Overall: 3.5/5
With a little more focus on setting their uniqueness factor in comparison to other BBQ restaurants, Coal Barbecues could really become THE go-to BBQ hangout for the lovely folks in and around Velachery !
