Bombay Halwa House, Kilpauk
A not-so-rainy day left us craving for hot, spicy, Indian food and bang came Bombay Halwa House to my memory, as it was in my visit list for a while now.
So after a show of searching for restaurants in Zomato, we decided on Bombay Halwa House, which we had already decided but still searched because it’s so cool yo 😉
After a bumpy ride, thanks for the battle-affected roads which had a WWE match with the rains and lost and my two wheeler which tried to stand alone in the rains and got a fever, we finally parked our vehicle in Windsor palace and ourselves inside Bombay Halwa House.
I, having decided I want to try some rice item today, and my companion having decided she wants to try out some Indian bread, decided to order Amritsari Kulcha and Peas Pulao to meet the wishes of both. For starters we went with Mushroom tikka and Masala Papad
First came the typical Onions meant to add a spicy tinge to our taste buds and get us prepared.
They were followed by Masala Papad, and we started breaking into it. It was a tangy experience with crisp papad increasing our appetite
Soon followed Mushroom tikka before we could even finish the papad. OMG ! It was lovely with juicy mushrooms. Naturally our expectations were high now.
Then came Amritsari Kulcha, followed by Gobi Kheema Mutter. Dripping with ghee, this is one Kulcha that people in diet must avoid, but hey, a true foodie isn’t one who bothers about diet 😀 The Gobi Kheema mutter was good, but it’s the usual fare that one would forget after a short period of time
Next came the Peas Pulao which had apparently taken a bath in Ghee and came without drying itself. I’m sure the ghee that we might have got from squeezing it dry would have lasted for few days 😀 Goes without saying it was pleasant on our taste buds and went well with the gravy
Since some gravy was left, we ordered 2 phulkas to finish it up, but the Phulkas were devoid of any salt or flavor and had a slightly bitter taste to it, so I left my companion to finish 1.5 phulkas as she was more hungry.
That’s the food part covered. Ambiance was typical of a busy Indian restaurant, bit noisy, but cozy at the same time. Service was really good, with friendly stewards serving us. Service speed was quite noteworth since they really didn’t make us wait long for each dish.
Overall, Bombay Halwa House was a pleasant experience and one that I’d love to have again !
Total bill was around Rs. 800, incl. a tip that I added.
