California Pizza Kitchen, Velachery (Phoenix Market City)

We went to California Pizza Kitchen last week. It was a different experience.

Our order consisted of: Berry Mango Smoothie, Tuscan Hummus, California Veggie Pizza, Garlic Cream Fettucini, Red Velvet Cake.

The Positives:

Yummilicious food, good quantity, pleasant(and a bit over-enthusiastic) service.

Berry Mango Smoothie: Our steward suggested us to take a 1/2 portion of this and when this arrived, we were glad we took his advice. If you see the attached pic, that’s how the half-portion looked like after I had tasted it. I wonder if I would’ve felt full if I had taken a full one. And the taste was divine.

Tuscan Hummus: Another divine item. I loved it. (Yeah, am a huge fan of Hummus).

California Veggie Pizza: This was loaded with veggies and we enjoyed it. In fact, I should say it was over-loaded. It was pretty good.

Garlic Cream Fettucini: I loved the pasta, but it was a little too bland. We were later informed that they typically make all their cream pastas bland, unless the customers requested it to be spicy.

Red Velvet Cake: A famous dessert(as per my companion), it didn’t fail to impress. It tasted very nice and we managed to finish this fully, though we were already full halfway through the pasta.

Regarding the service: The waiters were polite, helpful and attentive. And this attentive ended up as a negative as well.

The Negatives:

  1. Attentiveness of the waiters: One of the stewards was too attentive that we started feeling a little uncomfortable. Perhaps that comes from me being an introverted person. But I definitely wouldn’t like if the steward was chatting up with me for more than 5 minutes about what an item is, how the various items taste, without even letting us taste what we had ordered. Though I guess he was doing it to make us feel warm and comfortable, the timing and the way he did it left us feeling uncomfortable. I mean we had our spoonful of food hanging in the air as he engaged us on a conversation about what we ordered, what his personal likes and dislikes are and the offers they have.
  2. Cost: For the items we had ordered, the cost was almost 2k incl. of all taxes. I felt 1.5k incl of all taxes would be the maximum reasonable amount for them.

Overall:

Quantity: 4.5/5

Taste: 4/5

Cost/VFM: 3/5

Service: 3.5/5

Ambience: 4/5

Total: 4/5

I would try this place again when I have the chance.
