New Yorkers, Nungambakkam

This review of New Yorkers is at least few months old, so please bear with me. I’ve been to New  Yorkers couple of times in the past, and while my first experience can be considered bad, my second experience was pretty good. Hence the mixed rating. During our first visit, we had ordered Jalapeno Cheese Poppers, Chimichanga, Penne Arabiatta and Mashed Potatoes (It’s missing from the menu now). Our not-so-pleasant experience with service started here, with the steward insisting we order whatever we want right away, since it was around 2.25 PM and he didn’t want to pass any last minute orders to Kitchen, telling us they would be closing it by 3. First came the poppers, which was absolutely mind blowing, and not too spicy. It set our expectations high. Chimichanga followed the poppers, and was decent, though the poppers had already raised the bar high, a bar which Chimichanga couldn’t meet sadly. While we were relishing these starters, our Arabiatta and Mashed Potat...

Bombay Halwa House, Kilpauk

Image
A not-so-rainy day left us craving for hot, spicy, Indian food and bang came Bombay Halwa House to my memory, as it was in my visit list for a while now. So after a show of searching for restaurants in Zomato, we decided on Bombay Halwa House, which we had already decided but still searched because it’s so cool yo 😉 After a bumpy ride, thanks for the battle-affected roads which had a WWE match with the rains and lost and my two wheeler which tried to stand alone in the rains and got a fever, we finally parked our vehicle in Windsor palace and ourselves inside Bombay Halwa House. I, having decided I want to try some rice item today, and my companion having decided she wants to try out some Indian bread, decided to order Amritsari Kulcha and Peas Pulao to meet the wishes of both. For starters we went with Mushroom tikka and Masala Papad First came the typical Onions meant to add a spicy tinge to our taste buds and get us prepared. They were followed by Masala Papad , and we sta...

Arabian Delights, Anna Nagar West

Image
Arabian Delights – This is a hidden gem that I discovered by chance, thanks to my curiosity. After my colleague Asif introduced me to Shawarma last year, I’ve become a fan to the  divine dish.  When you love something, you start hunting for the great places to have it. This is exactly what I did and I chanced up on Arabian Delights after a short hunt. I’ve been here numerous times, and to my considerable surprise and happiness, they’ve been consistent across months with their Shawarma. Though they have Shawarma rolls, which cost Rs. 70 (With veggies) and Rs. 80 (Without veggies) each, I usually go for their Shawarma plate, which is priced at Rs. 120 with 2 extra Kuboos, making the total to be Rs. 140 including 4 Kuboos. Their signature garlic sauce with their finely shredded chicken makes their shawarmas a treat for everyone ! The main downside to this place, however, is their ambiance. It’s a dingy shop located amongst many larger shops on the pavement. Th...

Fusilli Reasons, Kilpauk

Image
Few silly reasons – That’s all you need to visit Fusilli Reasons Tucked into a small, but cozy space inside Dr. Vasudevan street, which again branches off from Ormes road, this place can be quite hard to find for first timers. But trust me when I say the effort would be worth it. With enough seating capacity for about 16 – 20 people at the same time, the place is almost always crowded. With that crowds, naturally you’d have to encroach up on the personal spaces of others, and pull off a convincing  death stare before you can get your own table. After strategically getting your table, you now have to manage to make your way to the front of the queue (well a horizontal one, considering the narrow gap between the tables and the counter), and place your order. The menu is quite limited – It has 2 – 3 types of Garlic breads, Ice Teas, Tang, Nachos, 3 – 4 varieties of Pasta and that’s it. I’ve been here multiple times, so it’s with ...

Kebab Corner, Greams Road

This is somewhat an old review, so I’ll keep it as short as possible. My friend Asif and I went here on a rainy day, straight from office, as he was craving for Kebabs, and wanted to have the best Kebab that he can get in Chennai that night. I checked Zomato, and found this place rated quite high. Though it was a fair distance away from our usual route, we decided to make the trip and we were glad we did. I ordered Malai Paneer tikka, while he went for a Chicken kebab. While I found the Malai paneer tikka decent, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. My friend said he found the Chicken kebab extremely good ! So that’s it folks ! The place is quite light on your wallets, total VFM and deserves a 4/5 ! [fb_album id=”1093932570618492″]

Charminar, Anna Nagar

I recently placed a home delivery order from Charminar in Anna Nagar East, thanks to the rains that prevented me from venturing out. I had ordered for  Mushroom Biryani and Paneer 65  from them. Mushroom Biryani: OMG ! It’s easily one of the best I’ve tasted so far. I had ordered for a single portion of it, but what I had got instead was something I could have for 2 meals 😀 Generous quantity of Biryani, even more generous quantity of Mushroom set it apart from most others who are quite stingy when it comes to Biryani (Yeah, which evil mastermind does that ?). It was quite spicy, but I’m not gonna complain about that, since it was very much enjoyable. Paneer 65: Another Wow ! The paneer was quite succulent and the it wasn’t like the usual batter fried Paneer that we regularly get. It was fried, but had been marinaded well before that and the flavor was quite rich in this. Goes without saying, it was spicy as well 😉 Accompaniments:  These were actually a bit of ...

Maplai, Nungambakkam

Image
Note:  We had been to Maplai, a fusion South Indian restaurant in Nungambakkam few days back as part of a Food Blogger’s meet. This review is my own opinion of the overall experience and the event doesn’t have any influence on the opinion. Note 2:  This is going to be a long review, in virtue of the number of food items I had personally tried, which was less than half of what was served to us, to be honest 😛 So, recently one of my friends, Ajit Induchudan, a seasoned Zomato foodie got a call to review the launch of a new menu at Maplai, Nungambakkam. He was also asked to spread the word amongst fellow food bloggers, and thus, I became a part of the group that was to give Maplai folks a big headache that night 😉 After a bit of wait, for the group of have most of its participants in attendance (Few did turn up more than an hour after they were supposed to :P), we went upstairs, where the entire floor was cleared for our destruction spree. It started with Chef Koushik A.K.A. ...
